Community Baptist Church
This Church is right on the corner of Franklin and Columbia Rd in downtown Chapel Hill. The Christmas tree sits in a small courtyard of the church that faces Franklin. In person, this is even lovelier:).

Framers Corner in Carrboro
I thought this was a very interesting sign for this business. It's in Carrboro, the next town over from Chapel Hill. Next town over makes it sound a bit far - it's really just a crossing of the street:). Check out the clouds in the background as well. That was a fortunate accidental capture:).

An Interesting Sculpture Piece
Chapel Hill has cool sculptures like this interspersed all throughout it. I really like the colors of this one. It's in the parking lot of the Hargraves Center, a very important community resource for the town.

UNC Treehouse
This I found today on another walk through the neighborhood. It's a bonafide treehouse built WAY up in a tree in between two homes. Painted on the side in Tarheel Blue are the letters UNC :).

Franklin Street at 6am
This is the center of downtown Chapel Hill. When I was doing Voter Registration, I had to be at the office at 6 one morning and figured I'd capture this rare time. It's hard to imagine Franklin Street with no people on it, though I was surprised to see the number of cars I did - I never thought of Chapel Hill as an early morning town...

Cathedrals at UNC-Chapel Hill
Today was a fine Thanksgiving! The weather was beautiful and so I took a walk around UNC's campus and found these cathedrals that I never noticed before.

Interesting Statue
Happy Holidays! It's been a bit over a month since I've had the chance to post. I've had some great adventures which took me to Colorado for the presidential campaign, into Montreal, and finally back to NC again:). I've missed posting though!
Glad to be back:).
This picture is of a statue about 5 mins from my home that sits in front of a firestation. I've wandered if it's symbolic of the work the firemen and women do.

Native Threads
I love little shops like this! This is another cool spot on 9th Street.
You may be wondering why I'm posting so many of these pictures. It's because I haven't been out to shoot in a few days. I'm working for an organization called GVO, and the campaign we're now on is Voter Persuasion. I'll be in Colorado for the next 3 weeks! I'll post a link to those pictures, which I'll post on photoblog.com/missleah :). Soon as I'm back in Chapel Hill though, I'll get to snapping:).

Silver Surfer!
This I found on that same street from yesterday in Durham. This is a great little comic book store and of course, I couldn't pass up the Silver Surfer! I'm sure you can't find him in too many other places ;-).

9th Street Durham, NC
9th Street is a cool little trendy area in Durham, NC. It's got lots of little shops, unique bars, and coffee spots. Very Indy:-).

Duke University Students Supporting Voting!
I was canvassing today around Duke University in Durham and saw this very cool mural create in support of Senator Obama and more importantly, getting people to vote. I had some other cool pictures from today but this one was the most symbolic. In light of the debate today, I thought it was timely:).

Beautiful Mural in Durham
I've been canvassing for Moveon.org and it's been a very fulfilling experience. One of the many cool things is getting to go to neighborhoods I've never been to. This beautiful mural is near Lakewood and Roxboro Street in Durham not too far from North Carolina Central University, a Historically Black (College or) University (HBCU). There is writing all along the bottom of it stating that a bunch of organizations collaborated to create the mural. There were church groups, youth groups, and local schools to name a few. I love projects like this!

Car Crash
Well this picture is a little different. It is something that is unique to Chapel Hill, as it's part of the back of the car I was in after we were hit from behind. Everyone's ok save for backaches and headaches. I filled the time waiting for the tow trucks taking pictures:-).

Bub O'Malley's
This picture, taken through a car window is of a local pool hall in Chapel Hill. Apparently this place has a lot of history. Notice the 4 people in the picture - more importantly, notice the light blue and white? Tonite there was a UNC football game. Tailgaters and happy fans everywhere. I know-next time, I'll catch a picture of more of that;-)...

Southern Trials in Carrboro
I went to watch the debates at Southern Trails in Carrboro. There was a great crowd gathered and I captured a few shots. This picture is however of the cool decor on the walls of Southern Trails. It's an old rail car turned restaurant. I thought this picture brought the old and the new together nicely.
The rest of the pictures I shot you can find here if you like:) :

The Busiest street in Raleigh
Hillsborough Street in Raleigh can actually look like a major road in a big city at times. This shot would totally convince you - if this is all you saw;-).

103 Airport Drive
Another example of how Chapel Hill maintains it's very natural appeal. This building has a very modern feel with large dark glass windows all across it's front. However planted in front of each one is a beautiful, blossoming tree.

Chapel Hill Town Hall
I have a few other pictures of it that show just how many trees North Carolina has managed to keep in it's cities. This town hall is smackdab in the middle of trees, even though it's a decent size building.

On Guard
A home in Chapel Hill off Franklin St. I liked it more in Sepia. It gives it one of those old school gangster movie feels;-).

Prime Outlet Mall
This is of the bridge leading over to the food court at Prime Outlet malls in Morrisville. Ok, not quite Chapel Hill BUT still in the area. I was on a bus riding adventure today:).

Mural at Southpoint Mall
Now that I've started this project, I'm loving that I'm noticing things I didn't really see before. I've been past this mural a few times and only saw it today. It's so random. I wonder can anyone figure out what it means exactly.
